IER SDU

IER-UCLM Service Delivery Unit

It is one of the first services of its kind at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, operational since 2011, and which guarantees quick and quality responses to the needs of users, whether internal (UCLM research groups) or external ( other IPOs, technology centers or companies). The service is responsible for access to the equipment offered and, when necessary, providing technical support from specialists (for example, HRTEM to users without prior experience in the technique), including training courses in its offer.
Service delivery Unit

The unit consists of fundamental areas: instrumentation area, 3D printing service, maintenance and administration. All of them are coordinated by the scientific manager of the Unit, Jesús Canales Vázquez, professor at UCLM in the area of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, who has more than 20 years of experience in the characterization of materials using diffraction techniques and electron microscopy. He is in charge of the coordination and management tasks of the service, ensuring that the equipment (instrumentation) is operational, troubleshooting and contacting the corresponding technical services, supplies, hiring of personnel, etc.

This area is in charge of managing reservations and, especially, issuing order/contract sheets and carrying out the subsequent procedures for issuing invoices to users. Likewise, it is responsible for being the initial point of contact for the Unit, offering general information and ensuring that users have an access card to the laboratories during the time of their reservation.

It is made up of the set of equipment and spaces from which materials characterization services are provided, which covers the following techniques: scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis (ATG, DTA, DSC, Dilatometry), DLS, electrochemical tests. There is a technologist, Juan Carlos Pérez Flores, doctor in Chemistry, with experience of about 20 years in the characterization of materials, hired by the Unit that is responsible for ensuring that the equipment is operational and carries out the tests in the case of those users who require it. require. He also participates in the preparation of reports when required.

There is a farm of 3D-FDM printers, as well as various systems based on photopolymerization (SLA/DLP/LED). The 3D printing service is carried out by a technologist, Juan Ramón Marín Rueda, a doctor in industrial engineering, hired by the Unit.

The unit's equipment requires maintenance for its correct operation and prevention of breakdowns. This includes refrigeration devices, rotary pumps, revision of communication ports, updating and revision of control computers, repair and/or replacement of sensors, supply of laboratory gases, cryogenics, etc. These tasks fall to a support technician, Reyes Alcañiz Tribaldos, an engineer with more than 20 years of experience in maintenance of mechanical/electronic equipment.
