General Information
The impact of chemistry on the daily life of citizens is extraordinary. For decades, chemical processes have been carried out without considering their impact on the Environment and Health. According to the American Chemical Society's code of conduct: "Chemical professionals should strive to do their work in ways that are safe and sustainable for the environment. This includes continuing to work to develop sustainable products and processes that protect the health, safety, and prosperity of future generations”.

To assume this responsibility, the inter-university PhD in Sustainable Chemistry has been implemented, which involves training students in the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances (in accordance with the principles of sustainable chemistry).

The PhD program in Sustainable Chemistry is an inter-university program, coordinated by the Universitat Jaume I.

The annual enrolement cost depends on the aplicable fees, aprobed by the Regional Government in Castilla-La Mancha. Click here to know the corresponding to the current academic year.

Complementary training activities
CROSS-CUTTING TRAINING ACTIVITIES ORGANIZED BY THE INTERNATIONAL DOCTORAL SCHOOL

The International Doctoral School (EID-UCLM) organizes cross-disciplinary training courses with the aim of offering the doctorate students’ complementary training activities to his or her activity as a researcher. The offered activities can be taught through their doctoral studies. To check for more information:

Access and admision
The minimum legal requirements for admission to any of the doctoral programs are those specified in the section "Access for new doctoral students" in this link.
Specific procedures of the PhD program
All procedures will be carried out at the International Doctoral School, except:

  •  Enrollment and request for certifications and degrees: Student Management Unit of the doctoral student's Campus.

  • Application for admission and thesis deposit: Secretary of the Department to which the student's tutor belongs.

THESIS BY COMPENDIUM OF PUBLICATIONS

To have a basic regulation so that the doctoral students of the Doctoral Program in Chemistry who wish to do so can do their Thesis by compendium of articles (article 13.2 of the Regulations of the Doctoral Studies), and so be considered, the requirements will be the following:

  • The document must have at least three articles published or accepted in journals that are in the first two quartiles of the JCR.

  • No more than five years must have elapsed between the publication of the first and the last article and at least one published with the student already enrolled in the corresponding PhD program.

  • The Director/Directors of the thesis must be co-authors in at least the last of the published papers.

  • The articles can only be used for a single thesis and therefore this will be stated by the rest of the non-doctoral co-authors in a letter of "renunciation" to use such articles to prepare other theses, which must be attached to the sections that comprise the Doctoral Thesis.

  • The position occupied by the doctoral student among the signatories of the articles must be among the first three signatories.

  • The thesis must have at least the following sections

  1. Abstract/Summary.

  2. Introduction (section in which the problems studied in the student's work are presented in a general way).

  3. Justification.

  4. Hypothesis and Objectives.

  5. Work plan or methodology.

  6. Results (this section will be composed of the three published articles as they have been published in the respective journals, and may also include others in the format of a scientific article in the process of revision or writing).

  7. General discussion.

  8. Conclusions/Conclusions.

  9. Bibliography.

Quality
Will be determined by the coordinator university.
