1. What does this PhD Program consist of?

The aim of this PhD interuniveristy Program is to train researchers in the fields of Oenology, Viticulture and Sustainable agronomy to be capable of facing the different challenges of this sector. Challenges not only in research, but also from the different sector companies in order to meet the services need; and for this purpose, this program trains students for the development of their doctoral thesis.


2. Justification and references.

This Ph.D. Program in Oenology, Viticulture and Sustainability was demanded by different research groups, and it was created due to the training needs of the future researchers. It is also important to remember that this Ph.D. Program has been a demand of different research groups from other countries such as Iberoamerican (Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay) and different countries belonging to the Mediterranean area of the EU (Portugal, France, Italy, Romania and Bulgaria).

The previous program is the inter-university doctorate in Oenology, regulated by the former RD778/1998, which began in the 2003-2004 academic year, supported by an agreement signed by eight Spanish universities and which was recognized with the Mention of Quality by the General Directorate of Universities.


3. Objectives.

  1. To provide students with correct research training in the field of oenology, viticulture and sustainable agronomy.
  2. To interact with other research groups.
  3. To know the research resources available in the different research groups integrated in this program.
  4. To become familiar with the different experimental techniques and working methods, both usual and especially innovative, developed by the research groups.
  5. To acquire practical knowledge of those techniques that are likely to be used during the completion of the doctoral thesis.

The minimum legal requirements for admission to any of the doctoral programs are those specified in the section "Access for new doctoral students" in this link.

ADMISSION TO THE PH.D. PROGRAM IN OENOLOGY, VITICULTURE AND SUSTAINABILITY.

The admission of students to the doctoral program will follow the principles of respect for fundamental rights and equality between men and women, as well as the principle of universal accessibility.  To access the program, it will be necessary to be in possession of a university degree that presents formative characteristics of an Official University master's degree with a research profile related to chemical, agri-food or life sciences and technologies, preferably those taught in whole or in part by the Universities that offer the program. The following are considered recommended master's studies for the Program:

  • Masters in science fields with specialization in Oenology, Viticulture, Agri-Food, Food Science and Technology, Agronomy, Environmental Sciences or Agronomic Engineering.
  • Masters in other Experimental Sciences (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering) or Health Sciences (Pharmacy, Nutrition and Dietetics).

 

In addition to the above-mentioned master's degrees other diploma of advanced studies (DEA)/degree/engineering degrees could be those in the following fields: Agronomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Food Science and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy or Chemistry.

 

CRITERIA FOR THE AWARDING OF VACANCIES

As a general criterion, when the number of admissions requests exceeds the number of places offered, the Academic Committee responsible for the program, following the procedure established by the University, will consider the following general criteria:

  • Academic criteria, being essential the presentation of the academic record and the curriculum vitae. The average grade of the transcript will be up to 90%, distributed as follows: for the undergraduate degree (or equivalent) it will be up to 55% of the evaluation.
  • This average grade of the transcript may be weighted according to the degree of academic affinity of the degree that gives access to the doctoral program; for the master's degree, the average grade will be up to 35% of the score.
  • Applicants will be assessed for other merits (rest of the score, up to 100% of the total), such as: recognition of their academic record, having enjoyed a research initiation grant, having experience in research initiation activities or professional experience related to the program, and knowledge of languages.

 

All students, regardless of the university or organization they come from, will be subject to the same admission criteria.

All the procedures will be carried out by the international doctoral school (EID-UCLM), except:

  • Registration and request for certifications and degrees: Student Management Unit of the student's Campus.
  • Application for admission and thesis deposit: Secretary of the Department to which the student's tutor belongs.
